by half, in half还是by halves？

　　在雅思写作中，地图题经常会涉及随着时间变迁，原有区域产生了变化。当中有时会出现建筑物、林地、农田等事物减少一半的情况，而同学们在使用英语描述该场景时往往会被以下几组长相有些雷同的短语搞混。如by half、in half和by halves。

　　by half： 表示"减少一半"。

　　in half： 表示"分成两半"，相当于… into two。

　　by halves： 表示"不彻底，半截子"，常用于否定句和疑问句中

After two decades, the farmlands have decreased by half in quantity whilst the residential area has doubled in size.

　　二十年后，农田在数量方面减少了一半而住宅区的面积却增加了两倍。

　　The local authorities have reduced the fiscal expenditure by half .

　　政府当局已经把财政支出减少了一半。

　　The path separates the grass in half .=The path separates the grass into two.

　　小径把草地分成了两半。

　　The painter was dissatisfied with his new work and then tore the picture in half.

　　画家不满意他的新作品然后把画撕成了两半。

　　You had better not do it by halves .
