Public transport should be funded by the government so that it can be free for the people who use it. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 20181101

Children can learn effectively from watching television. Therefore, children should be encouraged to watch television regularly both at home and at school. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 20170318

The news media has become more influential in people’s lives. Some people, therefore, think it is a negative development. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 2016023

Detailed description of crimes on newspaper and TV can have bad consequences on society, so this kind of information should be restricted on media. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? 20170525

Nowadays more and more people are using cell phones and computers to communicate with others. Therefore, they are losing the ability of face-to-face communication. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 20161126

It is not necessary to travel to other places to learn about other cultures, because we can learn from books, films and internet. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 20171005

Maintaining public libraries is a waste of money since computer technology is now replacing their functions. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 20161008

Public transport should be funded by the government so that it can be free for the people who use it. To what extent do you agree or disagree? 20181101

After realizing how much money people pay for their transportation monthly, some of them call on governments to heavily finance public transport system, and others even suggest that the system should be fully funded by governments so it can be free of charge for every user. However, from my perspective, a system like this must be a thankless one.

While discussing whether a city needs a free public transport system or not, we have to put sufficient emphasis on some possibly unwelcomed outcomes caused by it. Chiefly, supposing we already had a system like this, almost every day I would certainly take bus for 1 hour to go shopping in a far-away but cheap supermarket where I could save 20 or 50 Yuan for a daily shopping. This is to say, this kind of traffic demand is definitely unnecessary, and it can be greatly stimulated by the free system. As a result, more social resources such as transport infrastructure would be unduly used. On top of this, investing and remaining this system must be fairly costly, imposing unbearable financial stress on governments.

Instead of funding the system fully, governments are supposed to subsidize it more appropriately. The funding from governments should be utilized for keeping the fare reasonable and especially acceptable for low-income population such as the unemployed and minors. An instance in point is that in most countries students under 18 can buy some discount tickets for airlines, trains, buses and subways. The subsidy provided by governments makes the system more affordable by every public transport user.

In conclusion, although we do not need free public transport since it might cause plenty of adverse problems to us, the governmental subsidy is still imperative.
